Theme: "Authority in Relationship: To Seek and to Be Sought"

Scripture: (Lectionary)
Psalm 27:1, 4-9
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
One thing I asked of the Lord, that I will seek after: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent: he will set me high on a rock.
Now my head is lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me!
"Come," my heart says, "seek his face!" Your face, Lord, do I seek.
Do not hide your face from me. Do not turn your servant away in anger, you who have been my help. Do not cast me off, do not forsake me, O God of my salvation!

Matthew 4:12-23
Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
"Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles
the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned."
From that time Jesus began to proclaim, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near." As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him. Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.

Infant Dedication...Zane Nicholas Deegan, born 1/8/2014
Statement of Purpose..............................................................................................co-pastors
This room is full of many hearts and hands whom God has drawn together into a family of faith.  Within the church, no parents stands alone, every child is supported by spiritual aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters.   We are here to share in this awesome and exciting responsibility of raising children.
*Will they grow to have faith in Christ?
*Will they hear the stories of Jesus?
*Will the truths of Scriptures be lived out before them in a way that empowers them to be disciples?
*Will they be encouraged to walk by faith little by little, be forgiven when they fall, and be challenged to one day follow Christ into the waters of baptism?
The answer to these questions is our mission, our reason for gathering here today in this moment of Baby Dedication.

Revised Standard Version (RSV)
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord;[a] and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Covenant Promises of Baptism................................................................Kathy Edinger, Elder Mentor
Kathy to Bill and Tara:   Recalling your own baptism, give yourself in covenant promise to lead your child toward full discipleship in Christ.
Bill and Tara, do you receive this child, Zane Nicholas Deegan as a precious gift, and seek this community's support as your child grows?

Kathy presents the Covenant Symbol:
Often in the history of the church, a shell was used to symbolize baptism.  We give you this shell as a reminder of how your church and you are working together for the day when your child will respond to Christ's call and be baptized.

Theme: A Family Born of Water and the Word, A House Built from Wisdom

SOUND NOTES: Anna Hope is preaching. We may need to set a mic setting for her. There will be a baptism on this day.

Scripture: (Lectionary)
Mark 1:1-11
The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
“See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way;the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,’”
John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”

1 Corinthians 3:10-11, 16-23
According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their craftiness," and again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile." So let no one boast about human leaders. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all belong to you, and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
