Theme Scripture for January: Psalm 84
How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts!
My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars,
O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
Happy are those who live in your house,
ever singing your praise.Selah
Happy are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion.
As they go through the valley of Baca
they make it a place of springs;
the early rain also covers it with pools.
They go from strength to strength;
the God of gods will be seen in Zion.
O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
give ear, O God of Jacob!Selah
Behold our shield, O God;
look on the face of your anointed.
For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than live in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
he bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does the Lord withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
O Lord of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you.
Sermon Scripture for today: Luke 2:41-52
Now
every year his parents went to Jerusalem for the festival of the
Passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up as usual for
the festival.
When
the festival was ended and they started to return, the boy Jesus
stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it.
Assuming
that he was in the group of travelers, they went a day’s journey.
Then they started to look for him among their relatives and friends.
When
they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to search for him.
After
three days they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers,
listening to them and asking them questions.
And
all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.
When
his parents[a]
saw him they were astonished; and his mother said to him, “Child,
why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been
searching for you in great anxiety.”
He
said to them, “Why were you searching for me? Did you not know that
I must be in my Father’s house?”
But
they did not understand what he said to them.
Then
he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to
them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
And
Jesus increased in wisdom and in years, and in divine and human
favor.
