April 6, 2014

Theme: When it's time to move forward with God, we have to step through the door!

IMPORTANT: Instead of a traditional sermon, we will have a screen painting with instrumental meditation. It will take 8-12 minutes. It will be followed by the Invitation, an extended Call to Communion with seven loaves of bread coming forward. Communion will be taken by coming forward.

SERVERS & ELDERS: The 8 servers will need to come forward 7 bearing a loaf of bread and 1 carrying the pitcher,  following the elders on the last stanza of the Hymn of Communion as usual. After the prayers and words of Institution for BOTH bread and cup, the outside servers will take one loaf and one tray to the back to serve anyone who chooses to stay seated. The inside two servers move, pew by pew through the congregation as ushers, cuing people to come forward. The remaining 4 ushers move to the table of bread and cups on their side and assist as folks come forward. The choir server serves the choir and does everything as usual.

Sound Notes: Multiple readers at the pulpit mic for the Call to Communion.

Scripture: Revelation 3:14-22
13 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.
14 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the origin[a] of God’s creation: 15 “I know your works; you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 For you say, ‘I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing.’ You do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. 18 Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich; and white robes to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen; and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. 19 I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore, and repent. 20 Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me. 21 To the one who conquers I will give a place with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. 22 Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.”
